Stereotyping is a very common 'thing' in everyone of us! Serious... EVERYONE!!!
I remembered when I was a kid, adults always say: Girl ah, don't run/walk too far har, if not, later APUNENE (someone who is dark skin/black) will come and catch you!
So.... since we were small, we will think that APUNENE is very bad people...
People who do not smile does not mean that he/she is not happy
People who always happy does not mean that he/she is really happy
People who is tall does not mean he/she must be good in basketball
People who looks proud does not mean that he/she is not friendly
People who looks fierce does not mean that he/she is bad people
....etc....etc....
me,myself... also stereotyped people! so... I expected a lot of people also stereotyped ME!
I am proud?? I am a pretender?? I am anti-social?? I am bad?? blah..blah..blah... whatever lah... "Don't judge the book by it's cover"
Yesterday morning, I brought my new colleague (a Japanese guy) to bank to open his bank account. I was like: oh my god, need to bring the 'iceberg' go to bank & talk to him! shxx...
From the 1st day I saw him, never smile to me when I gave him something, no facial expression at all... I stereotyped him as fierce, unfriendly!!!
When we were on our way to the bank, I tried to talk to him.... Tadaaaa! guess what??? He is quite friendly and told me quite many things about Japan. Hahaha... and... I discovered something... The reason he does not want to smile ---> 因为不好看!牙齿不美!
What I was trying to say is........ Please try not to stereotype people before you talk to him/her! Make friends with him/her and get to know more about them and you will feel he/she is not that bad or not that kind.
